Writing the Summary
The article review summary provides a brief overview of the most relevant information discussed in the article. Remember that the better you understand an article, the easier it is for you to explain it thoroughly and briefly. Therefore, reading each section of the article several times before attempting to summarize it should be the first step to complete this assignment.
1. State the objective
of the article and discuss the importance of the subject matter. You can
identify the research question instead.
2. Where applicable,
formulate the hypotheses tested.
3. In a few paragraphs,
describe the methods, including the participants, the study design, what was
studied/measured ([dependent variables and independent variables], data
analysis approaches.
4. Briefly describe the
most relevant/significant results or findings. Show how the hypothesis was
tested. Paraphrasing offers an alternative to using direct quotations in your
summary.
5. Discuss the
implications of these findings. Avoid overstating the importance of the
findings.
6. Provide a brief
reflection about the findings and the issue discussed in the article. Discuss
possible biases and limitations if applicable.
7. Make sure to edit the
final version and run a spell check before submitting your work.
