Prepare: Review Chapters 1 and 2 in the course text and any assigned additional learning material.

Reflect: This week, we will begin creating a professional research proposal. You will apply what you learned in POL470 and your other political science courses to the development of this research proposal. The first steps in creating this proposal are to find a researchable political science topic, assign a title to the proposal that catches your audience’s attention, includes a valid research question, and a credible thesis that directly addresses the research question. First, it is vitally important that you determine if the topic you have chosen can be researched in the time allotted, that enough information about the topic is available, and that the topic will add needed knowledge to the field of political science. In addition, you will need a title that will catch your audience’s attention and draw them into your research. Also, you must clearly describe what scholarly question your academic research will answer. Last, you must provide a preliminary, defensible answer (thesis) to your research question. If all of these initial requirements are succinctly fulfilled, then you are well on your way to building a sound and scholarly political science research proposal.

Write: In your essay of at least three pages, complete the following:

Identify your research topic, research proposal title, research question, and research thesis.

Explain why the topic is feasible to research and important to study.

Explain how the title will make readers interested in the topic.

Describe the research question for your research topic.

Defend the thesis of your research topic.
