Topic: The leapfrog group
Healthcare is constantly changing with more advances and a shift away from fee to service care. The focus has shifted towards providing a higher quality of care to patients. Patients have more options and gain more access to better care. There is also a shift for educating patients on becoming more involved in their care and focusing on preventative care measures. The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization focused on improving the quality, affordability, and safety of healthcare. For 20 years, this group has concentrated on collecting, analyzing, and publishing data to improve the quality and safety to foster a higher rate of care, help patients make better choices, and save lives. The article that I read discussed how a study demonstrated that hospitals performing well on the first three leaps of the Leapfrog survey had a lower mortality rate (Kernisan, 2009).
